A new wildfire, dubbed the "Twin Oak" fire, that broke out in Carlsbad on Wednesday has gutted at least 30 homes, forcing thousands of evacuations, in and around the popular amusement park Legoland.

This is one of the series of wildfires that have strained firefighting resources in the region to such an extent that San Diego County has declared an emergency.

State officials have said that no less than 30 homes in Carlsbad, Calif., were destroyed by the bush fire that spread over 250 acres near Lake Hodges, setting off evacuation orders for North San Elijo, Discovery and Coronado Hills.

In fact, the students of the university, which has an enrollment of over 10,000, was in the midst of organizing spring finals when the fire broke out and spread rapidly towards the campus, forcing evacuations.

Even rides at Legoland amusement part were abandoned following interruptions in power supply due to the wild fire. In addition, officials issued evacuation orders for several thousand homes owing to the brush fires in various parts of San Diego. Authorities also ordered evacuation of the military housing at Camp Pendleton, located north of San Diego.

While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, officials pointed to the temperatures in the region crossing 100° F as well as the continuous drought in the area, which has made the region susceptible to such fires.

Meanwhile, latest reports say that two firefighters have sustained varying degrees of injuries while fighting the blazes. One of them sustained a heat-related injury, while the other fell sick due to smoke inhalation.
