Cara Delevingne News: 'Paper Towns' Actress Opens Up About History With Depression
Cara Delevingne may appear to have the perfect life, but even she has some struggles. The actress, known for her role in Paper Towns, admits that she was lucky and grew up in a privileged house hold.
However, she states that she suffered from massive depression, as well as self hatred and anxiety.
She opened up on this subject in the July 2015 issue of Vogue magazine.
She spoke at length about her struggles which led her to even contemplate suicide.
"This is something I haven't been open about, but it's a huge part of who I am," said Delevingne to Vogue. "All of a sudden I was hit with a massive wave of depression and anxiety and self hatred, where the feelings were so painful that I would slam my head against a tree to try to knock myself out. I never cut, but I'd scratch myself to the point of bleeding. I just wanted to dematerialize and have someone sweep me away."
Delevingne admitted that she grew up too fast due to her mother's addiction to heroin, yet she was prescribed anti psychotic drugs to help with her depression.
She stated that when she was taking a break from modeling in New York, she hit the lowest point in her life, as she considered suicide.
"I was packing my bags, and suddenly I just wanted to end it," said Delevingne. "I had a way, and it was right there in front of me, And I was like, I need to decide whether I love myself as much as I love the idea of death."
