'Captain America: Civil War' News: Kevin Feige Talks Black Panther's Big Choice

'Captain America: Civil War' will be the first film in the MCU where we see heroes divide and oppose each other. As to which character will join what side is still up in the air, as fans have all realized by now that Marvel Studios only loosely derive their stories from the comics.

This has had fans itching to know which side the titular Black Panther character will stand with. This will say a lot for how fans perceive him in the future, as this will be the character's debut in the MCU before his own solo project in 2018.

In an interview with SuperHeroHype, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has assured fans that Black Panther will remain a neutral figure. He goes on to say that this was the whole reason they decided to introduce him into the film.

He responds to the question if he plans to introduce all of the new characters into the MCU this way with saying:

"It always varies, it really does. It always depends on how the timing works out. It depends on what stories we want to tell. In the case of "Civil War," we needed a third party, we needed a character who wasn't on either Captain America or Iron Man's side, which is why we went, "You know what? We're doing a Black Panther movie, but it would actually be smart to have him fill this role we need in Civil War and introduce him here first." So it always just depends on the story and the way we want to tell the story."

Black Panther has been announced to be played by actor Chadwick Boseman. While his solo film is scheduled for 2018, the studio still struggles to find a director for the project. Despite past rumors, director Ava Duvernay has confirmed that she won't be taking on the film.
