Candace Cameron Bure's Faith and Family Helped Her Overcome Bulimia, 'I Love My Body' She Says
Candace Cameron Bure has had a resurgence in the media over the last year or so after keeping a relatively low profile post-"Full House." Now, as a performer on "Dancing with the Stars" and someone whose face is on TV again, she stressed the importance of having body confidence and how her trust in God helped her to get there.
"I've grown to love my body and I'm very happy with it," the actress said to Us Weekly at an event on Friday. "I'm confident with my body and at my age -- not that I'm super old -- but I feel like I look better now than I ever did in my 20s. I love my body."
Surprisingly, she attributes being in better shape to having her three children, after having a battle with her weight and bulimia. "It's self-confidence, but I've also gotten more in shape than in the past even 10 years since I had my kids."
Cameron Bure married at the age of 20 after her run on "Full House" ended. The stress of being married, looking for new work and hollywood, along with being young caused her to turn to alternative methods to deal with her problems. She became concerned with her body image, and became bulimic.
"That really was the time of identifying with being an actress and that being my whole life, and then now being someone's wife and moving to a new city, a new country even," she said to OMG! Insider last year while doing promotion for her book, Balancing It All. "I turned to food for comfort and had to find a different source, because clearly it wasn't a healthy way to deal with things. So that's really when my faith was kicked up a notch and sought comfort in my relationship with God -- and not with food."
What Cameron Bure wants fans to know the is that she is a regular person who can experience problems as well. "I don't view myself as a celebrity. There's always that disconnect for me. I'm just a person, and I'm an actress. I get it, but I'm a mom, a wife, a friend, and I'm really not a big deal," she said to the Christian Post.
She does not let her faith in God interfere with her work as an actresses too. "I've passed on many roles and auditions just walking through the door because of content and knowing where I draw my lines and boundaries. I'm doing the very things I want to be doing," she shared. "Hallmark and the UP Network are the places I wants to be."
Part of her strive for family friendliness and moral values filled projects is her relationship with Jesus, and being a Christian in a notoriously unstable work environment for someone of faith.
"Being a Christian affects every aspect of my life. It plays a part in all the roles and projects I choose to be a part of. I want to honor Christ in all that I do, and that's why it's important to stay in the family friendly role of television and movies," said Bure.
