'Call The Midwife' Season 5 Premiere Date, Spoilers: Series Films In Africa; Next Season The ‘Strongest’ Yet

Along with its filming in Africa, hit television series "Call the Midwife" season 5 already has its premiere date and one of the executive producers claimed that the series was the strongest to date.

According to TV Series Finale, "Call the Midwife" season 5 is set to air on Apr. 3 on PBS. As per the publication, the series is set in 1961 and is going to feature a birth defect crisis due to thalidomide, an immunomodulatory drug marketed as a mild sleeping pill for people even for pregnant women. In pharmaceutical history, it caused birth defects to thousands of newborns.

As per PBS, "Call the Midwife" season 5 also centers on Poplar feeling the winds of social change, in addition to improvements of various life aspects, such as healthcare, housing, and sanitation. In fact, the series' Facebook account mentioned that one episode will be filmed in South Africa.

In a statement (via Ideastations), Neal Street Productions executive producer Dame Pippa Harris said that they were thrilled to be returning to PBS with "Call the Midwife" season 5, adding that she firmly believed that it was their strongest yet. She also said that their continued popularity in the United States and the United Kingdom demonstrated how keen audiences were to watch character driven and emotionally engaging medical drama.

For Harris, "Call the Midwife" season 5 was a testament to the skill of Heidi Thomas' terrific scripts and the brilliance of the ensemble cast. The series stars Kate lamb, Annabelle Apison, Cliff Parisi, Stephen McGann, Ben Caplan, Victoria Yeates, Charlotee Ritchie, Emerald Fennell, Laura Main, Bryony Hannah, Helen George, Judy Parfitt, Pam Ferris, Linda Bassett, and Jenny Agutter, among others.

"Call the Midwives" season 5 returns on Apr. 3.
