Call of Duty Ghosts Update Improves PS4 Stability, 1.7 GB Download Patch Leaves Gamers Wondering About the Size
Today Call of Duty: Ghosts received a 1.7 GB stability patch on the PS4.
According to IGN, there was only one note attached to the download, "Fixed a crash that could occur at the start screen, if you started downloading Onslaught before launching the game."
Even the game's developers, Activision, did not provide any additional detail about the large update file. "Unfortunately we don't have information on why the patches are the sizes that they are. Most of the details are included in the patch notes, I know the notes released today were a bit small, we're sorry to say we wouldn't have the full details as to why a patch focused on stability was so large," wrote the support team on Reddit.
They continued, "All patches, and patch notes are released by the studio, Infinity Ward. We apologize you've had to download so many files lately, multiplayer on Ghosts is one of the most popular features in the game, the development studio releases updates to help improve its performance."
"File size varies by platform, PS4 and Xbox One will typically be larger than its predecessors since their hardware differs from the previous generation platforms. Newer consoles are able to handle more, be it improved graphics, or even support for Ground war, so when patches/games are released for these newer platforms more data is required."
Call of Duty: Ghosts' newest DLC "Devastation" is coming to Xbox 360 and Xbox One on April 3.
According to GameSpot, Devastation is the second expansion for Ghosts and Activision/Infinity Ward have added four new multiplayer maps and a new hybrid weapon. This SMG/Assault Rifle, "Ripper," is available for today if a user has the season pass. The season pass is $50, or the DLC alone is $15.

GameSpot reported that the new maps are called Ruins, Collision, Behemoth, and Unearthed. Each of these maps takes place in a different part of the world. The Ripper can switch between types "on the fly" and is a powerful hybrid for the multiplayer maps.
Along with the DLC is Extinction Mode episode 2, Mayday. In part two, the players will board a Chinese research vessel and will be attacked by aliens and a 100 foot tall Kraken, reported GameSpot.
