Denver Broncos NFL 2015 Trade Rumors: Broncos Deny Trying to Trade Peyton Manning
A couple of days after a report came out saying the Denver Broncos tried to ship Peyton Manning to the Houston Texans this past offseason, the team is denying the report's claims.
As reported by CBSSports.com, two sources told Benjamin Albright of Denver's 94.1 FM that the Broncos tried to trade Manning before the veteran quarterback eventually signed his restructured deal with the team on March 4.
Patrick Smyth, a Broncos spokesperson, took to Twitter to deny the reports saying, "Here's one for the record - The speculation is false, and your report is inaccurate."
But while the Broncos have said their piece on the matter, the Texans have not offering instead a "no comment" when asked by ProFootballTalk for comment.
CBSSports, notes that the situation resembles the one centered on Jim Harbaugh back in February of 2014 when the San Francisco 49ers and the Cleveland Browns released conflicting statements about the head coach.
The report also points out that one sign that the Broncos may have tried to ship Manning out is that in his new restructured deal, there is now a no-trade clause, something that was absent from 2012-2014. The clause was added back in March, when Manning took a $4 million pay cut to stay with the Broncos.
"I'm amazed at his conditioning level, the shape he's in, how he moves around, the feet that he has. He's responded very good," said Broncos coach Gary Kubiak, who was coaching the Texans back in 2012 when Manning expressed his desire to play in Houston, but was passed on for Matt Schaub.
After the Broncos hired Kubiak in January, there were murmurs that his offense, which requires a more mobile quarterback, would not mesh well with Manning's style.
"We try to dedicate a lot of our time under center, because that's something he hasn't done much of, so we're probably 3-to-1 under center-to-gun. But we're also continuing to do all the things he's done throughout his career. It's been good," the coach said in early June.
