Breaking Bad Season 6 Hoax: AMC Drama Not Returning for Season 6; Illegal Episode Downloads Record High
'Breaking Bad' fans must have has their bubbles burst upon confirmation that AMC's critically-acclaimed crime drama series is absolutely not returning for a sixth season. National Report, a satirical website, recently published a report stating that creator Vince Gilligan announced a renewal of the show and that Walter White is not dead.
The news, which was published on the site about two weeks ago, claims, "Walter White is not dead, and there will indeed be a sixth season of the wildly-popular, award-winning AMC drama." The article has gone viral on social networking sites with at least 755,000 shares as of writing. Writer and producer Gilligan, 47, quickly dismissed the rumor and clarified that there is certainly no Season 6.
Meanwhile, on the wake of 'Breaking Bad' victory as the Outstanding Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards last August 25, the show has been illegally downloaded countless times during the week following the win. The Sunday Morning Herald reported that a United States-based study recorded a 400 percent increase of online downloads for 'Breaking Bad'. This is equivalent to 141,334 instances after the Emmy's awards night.
The data is gathered by anti-piracy company CEG Tek International that publishes similar reports annually. Other shows that had high unauthorized downloading records include Netflix's 'House of Cards', 'Orange is the New Black', and HBO Original's 'Game of Thrones'.
'Breaking Bad' had fime successful seasons that aired from January 20, 2008 to September 29, 2013. It starred Bryan Cranston as Walter White, Anna Gunn as Skyler White, and Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman.
