‘Breaking Bad’ News: AMC Show Influences Rise of Methamphetamine Use Across Europe?

New reports have emerged claiming that the hit TV show 'Breaking Bad', of AMC Network, has influenced a 51 percent rise in the usage of methamphetamine and a 400 percent surge in the smuggling of the drug into Britain.

Professor Ellis Cashmore, an author on celebrity and media culture from Staffordshire University blames the global success of 'Breaking Bad' for this matter.

"Although the show does not go out to glamourize the drug, its very inclusion promotes interest in that substance," Cashmore said.

Cashmore also said that the central premise to the entire series would serve to boost interest for people who had not encountered the drug before.

He also added that the character of Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul, who takes crystal meth in the show can instantly make people curious about the drug.

Cashmore said that even though the harmful effects of crystal meth are shown in the TV show, people will still be drawn in to use it, according to Mail Online.

Meanwhile, Vince Gilligan, the creator of 'Breaking Bad' announced that he and his team have started to work on the spin-off series, entitled 'Better Call Saul' which will focus on the character - Saul Goodman.

Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk, is Walter and Jesse's funny and nervous lawyer. The title of the spin-off is also Goodman's tagline in his legal services office.

The story of the spin-off is set six years before Goodman met Walter White. On that note, AMC Networks confirmed that the first season of 'Better Call Saul' will air in February 2015.
