Starting Pitchers:
Pittsburgh Pirates: A.J. Burnett (3-5, 2.72 ERA)
Atlanta Braves Kris Medlen (1-6, 3.48 ERA)
It's been a rough couple months for Braves pitcher Kris Medlen. Medlen, who hasn't won a game since beating the Marlins in early April, will definitely need some run support to get past the scrappy Pittsburgh Pirates.
Medlen only pitched two innings in a lost against the Toronto Blue Jays after suffering a line drive shot to his calf. When asked how the injury would affect future starts, Medlen confessed: "I've been hit by a lot of balls in my life. That's one of the harder ones I've felt," he said. "I knew right away (that he'd have to leave the game), but I at least wanted get through the inning."
Even during his days as a Marlin in the NL East, Burnett has never had much success against the Braves. He's even worse in their stadium. Burnett has only ever won one game [in 12 appearances] at Turner Field.
Burnett will have his hands full against the surging Upton brothers. B.J. Upton scored the game-winning run against the Washing Nationals Saturday, and a solo homer the day after. B.J. has 9 times in 44 at-bats lifetime against Burnett. B.J.'s brother Justin is 2-2, with one of those hits a home run.
Tune in as the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the Atlanta Braves tonight at 6:10 PM CT.
