Boxing News 2014: Oscar De La Hoya Predicts Mayweather - Garcia Bout is Far From Reality
Boxing icon Oscar De La Hoya commented that a Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Danny Garcia bout might be far from happening especially that the two are currently preparing for their respective fights in the last quarter of 2014.
Garcia, 26, is set to face Rod Salka, 31, on Saturday, August 10 in Brooklyn while Mayweather Jr. encounters Marcos Maidana for the second time on September 13.
"So it's really difficult now in these days to look ahead and plan for the future on all these days to look ahead and plan for the future on all these fights, these mythical fights that everybody wants to watch, because we're experiencing something that hasn't been experienced in a long time in boxing," World Boxing News cited De La Hoya.
Now, Philadelphia-based Garcia is taking his sparring training to the next level as he works his way towards being a Mayweather-worthy opponent, he said, "The media and people always want to choose the fighter with more fame and more publicity. That's what makes the underdog when you're fighting somebody who had probably a bigger name than you in the sport; but I never had in my mind that I was the underdog. I just trained hard, rose to the occasion and won in spectacular form."
Garcia and Salka will be fighting for the World Welterweight title under Golden Boy Promotions in association with Dibella Entertainment, Junior Welterweight World Champion Lamont Peterson. Event tickets are available at $250, $175, $75, $50, and $25.
