‘Bourne 5’ Release Date News: Fifth Installment Swaps Premiere
Universal Pictures has announced a new release date for the fifth installment of their action thriller spy film franchise 'Bourne', moving the date back to July 29, 2016.
The new release date isn't much of a change, just two weeks past the originally planned July 15, 2016 release. However, the new date is taking over the slot previously occupied by 20th Century Fox's 'Planet of the Apes 3'.
It now shares the weekend with Director Jake Szymanski's 'Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates', which may bode well for the 'Bourne' film's box office earnings.
The as-of-yet-untitled 'Bourne' film will reunite Matt Damon as Jason Bourne and Director Paul Greenglass, who directed the second and third film in the franchise, 'The Bourne Supremacy' and 'The Bourne Ultimatum'. The two will also be teaming up to write the film's screenplay.
With the fifth 'Bourne' film in the works, some fans are worried that Jeremy Renner, who plays Aaron Cross, will no longer will be returning. However, producer Frank Marshall stated that Renner was still going to be a part of the franchise,.
'The Avengers' star first appeared as Aaron in 2012's 'The Bourne Legacy' and while he may not be returning for the fifth film, it did not mean a future appearance was not possible.
"We don't have plans for that. You never know. I never say never. But that's not that plan. They're on separate tracks," Marshall said during an interview with Collider.
The idea of "separate tacks" could mean that the rumored spinoff starring Renner as Cross is still in the cards, but has merely been shelved for the time being to make way for the fifth 'Bourne' film, according to Empire.
For now though, Damon and Greenglass are still working on the film's script, and fans can only sit tight and wait for Universal to release details on any of the returning cast, new cast members and production details.
