Blackberry Z10 Smartphone Costs over $2K: Is This the Best Option for a Company That Just Fired 40% of its Employees?

Blackberry just announced its latest phone in its lineup of smartphones. The P9982, co-designed by Porsche, will sell for around $2300 due to its "high quality materials." This whole situation sounds like the twilight zone for many consumers. The "high quality materials" that are in question are stainless steel trim and genuine leather on parts of the phone. Many critics argue that Blackberry is missing the biggest problem with their phones, and that is that the software is not up to par with Apple iOS and Android. The root of the company's problems lies within the functionality of the phone, not the materials being used to make it. And surely the massive price tag will not have the average person running to pick up the new Z10 model.

All of this comes after Blackberry reported a $1 billion loss and plans to fire around 40% of their staff. Blackberry's stock is around $6 a share, so that means you could get about 388 shares of the company or one $2K Blackberry device.

Another twist to this incredible story is that Blackberry is currently having a hard time selling the $150 version of the Z10 that features the exact same software.

Would you buy a $2K smartphone even if it were the best smartphone in the world? Most consumers don't have that much money in their budget for a phone, let alone 2 or 3 for one family.
