Kathie Lee Gifford Talks Faith and How Billy Graham Transformed Her Life

NBC's "Today" has been doing a week long "#InspiredBy" series that allows people to tell the world about what has inspired them and how it has effected their life. With guest as Al Roker, Tamron Hall, and NBC's very own Kathie Lee Gifford, social media fans and anchors are invited to share their stories. On Wednesday, Kathie spoke to NBC during the #InspiredBy series about her inspiration, and the person who had inspired her the most was Billy Graham. Billy Graham has been a remarkable evangelist for nearly 95-years, and Kathie had the oppurtunity to spend his 95th birthday with him last week. Billy Graham has been apart of Kathie's life ever since she was the age of 12.  One day, Kathie entered her home where she found her mother and sister sobbing on the floor. They were sobbing because they both had come to Christ during a powerful sermon by Billy Graham during his 'Billy Graham Crusade'. "I thought maybe the president had been killed or something terrible had happened,'' she said. "It turns out that no, they had both just watched a Billy Graham crusade, and both of them had come to faith by watching the power of his message through a television screen", stated Kathie during the #InspiredBy series.

Later that year, Kathie had went to see the movie, "The Restless Ones," which was released in 1965 from part of Billy Grahams subsidary. Kathie stated that during the movie she felt that God really spoke to her, and that she knew right then her life was changed for forever. "I felt that I heard God (speak) to me, and not audibly. It wasn't a weird thing. It was a magnificently sweet and simple thing. 'I love you, Kathie, and if you'll trust me with your life, I will make something beautiful out of it.''' When the movie ended, they invited people to come and give their life to Christ, and Kathie jumped right up, and did so. "Greatest decision I ever made in my life. My entire family came to faith through Billy for eternity." When life had gotten rough for Kathie, Billy Graham was always the one that either called, or she called first. During her marriage issues, Billy is the one that would try and reassure the love between her and her husband. Kathie stated that 'he knew there had to be healing from the both of us'.  Kathie has been cherishing these last few years as Billy becomes older and states that he will always be the man that inspired and saved her.

"The day that the Lord finally calls Billy home, I will feel every emotion that day,'' she said. "I will be overwhelmed with sadness that my friend is physically gone, and I will be overjoyed with love for him and gratitude that he's in heaven and his struggle will be over.I hope I can wrap my arms around his dear neck as I have so many times through these years, and say for the last time, 'Thank you, Billy, and I love you.'''
