‘Big Bang Theory’ Season 8 Spoilers: Producer Talks Sheldon Cooper Leaving Rumors

Big Bang Theory Season 7 ended in quite an unexpected manner showing Sheldon Cooper retreating on a train away from Cal Tech. From a fan's standpoint, the show's lead protagonist is staging an untimely exit, but according to Jim Parsons, it might not necessarily be the case.

In the seventh season finale, Sheldon lost his theoretical physicist position with Cal Tech, which at first glance is detrimental to the survival of the character. However, critics say that Parsons' role is vital in the success of the show which has been airing on CBS for over seven years with an average audience share of 19.79 million, according to Nielsen data.

"He could show back up at home immediately, couldn't he?" Parsons said. "Nobody will tell me. I don't know if they know yet. They may know, but I really don't know if they do," Inquisitr reported, referring to the lack of details for Season 8 as of yet.

Executive producer Steve Molaro revealed that Sheldon's moving away from Cal Tech could also be an opportunity for the character to present something new. "As of now, he is off riding the rails like a hobo. We thought it would be interesting to take an episode and sort of systematically chip away at Sheldon and break him down to the point where he just needed to leave to process everything," he added.

Co-actor Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz) agreed that writers of Big Bang Theory could easily improvise plot twists without sacrificing the flow of the story. "They provide us with such unbelievable words. And they're so fast and they know the show so incredibly well, that there really aren't many moments where I feel like I could add anything to what they bring to it," Helberg said.
