‘Big Bang Theory’ Season 8 Premiere Date, Spoilers: 5 Lead Actors on Standby for New Contracts
Production for 'Big Bang Theory' Season 8 has temporarily been put on hold as CBS executives are still working on finalizing contracts for the show's five actors. Negotiations have been ongoing for Cuoco-Sweeting, Johnny Galecki, and Jim Parsons following their requests for salary appraisal.
Cuoco, Galecki, and Parsons appeal for an increase of $1 million from a $300,000 per episode talent fee. Co-actors Kunal Nayar and Simon Helberg are also eyeing for a raise of undisclosed amounts. CBS executive producer Steve Molaro expressed the network's confidence that the matter will be resolved soon enough.
Co-creator Chuck Lorre told E! Online that raises are significant in determining the longevity of the show, "Everybody should be very successful and happy and rich. They earned it. It's a great cast. Great cast. It's their time," he added. Meanwhile, series regulars Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch have already been awarded their respective contracts.
CBS President Nina Tessler issued a statement on July saying, "We're feeling very confident that everything will work out. These deals manage to get done miraculously somehow year after year." Prior to the contract negotiations, CBS renewed the show for another three consecutive seasons.
Previous reports claimed that Parsons, who play Sheldon in CBS' flagship comedy series, is leaving the show. The actor denied the rumors, but admitted to USA Today that he is not sure whether or not his character will return to the show.
If there will be no further delays, 'Big Bang Theory' Season 8 is expected to return on screen this September 22 at 8 PM.
