"The Bible" series on The History Channel might go down as the best selling DVD/blue ray of all time.

The series has already topped the ratings on TV and after its final episode on Easter Sunday (March 31) it goes on sale for DVD/blue ray April 2nd.

This is definitely the quickest release I've ever heard of for a DVD release, 2 days after the season ends.  However, it is smart to strike while it's hot.

There are a few reasons that I think that "The Bible" DVD series could rival the best sellers of all time.

First, it's not a suspense movie where it is only exciting the first time when you don't know what is going to happen.  Clearly this is not the case because 90% of people watching the series on TV know what is going to happen and they are still watching.

Second, the series is so much more universal then a normal TV show.  Usually the popular sellers on DVD are niche markets depending on what you watch on TV like Friends or Dexter.  However, with "The Bible" series it is appealing to all Christians (and hopefully non-Christians as well).  So people in almost any age and demographic could sit down and watch the episodes.

Third, the series is timeless.  Clearly, this is true because the stories are over 2000 years old already and people still are learning and discovering about them.  This allows people to watch for historical and entertainment value at the same time.

Lastly, people are used to reading the bible, not seeing it.  Besides scattered movies about the 10 commandments or the very well done "Passion of the Christ" film, many of these stories have never been shown.  "The Bible" has covered many stories that other films have overlooked, not at time for, or were too overwhelming to try to put on film.  "The Bible" series with produceres Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have really taken their time to do these scenes with great acting and wonderful scene and CGI work to really bring these stories to life, some for the first time and some better then ever.

So only time will tell, but I think "The Bible" series does have a chance to break records.
