"The Bible" Series Epic Success Opens Doors for New "Jesus of Nazareth" Series
"The Bible" Series on The History Channel had its epic two hour final on yesterday on Easter Sunday. The final episode was entitled "Passion" and with the first hour focusing on Jesus trial, beatings, death and resurrection and the second hour focusing on the disciples carrying out Jesus message along with Saul's conversion to Paul to become one of the biggest preachers of the gospel.
With all of the success of "The Bibles" series, there is already a new series in the works for people who want more to keep their eyes out for.
The new series will be called "Jesus of Nazareth" and will be made for around 20 million as was "The Bible" series. Michael Landon Jr., who is writing and producing the series, had this to say, ""We believe the audience continues to have a hunger for life- and faith-affirming films." Landon Jr. added, "The monumental success of Mark Burnett and Roma Downey's 'The Bible' just underscores that."
The "Jesus of Nazareth" series does not have a landing spot on TV yet, but the makers are confident that there will be plenty of offers.
Of course, more good bible content on TV is never a bad thing, however just because "The Bible" series did well, does not in any way guarantee that a new series would prove just as well. "The Bible" series was 4 years in the making and was clearly a passion of producers Mark Burnett ("Surviror" "The Apprentice") and Roma Downey ("Touched by an Angel") and it showed in the actors who were cast and the detail they put into each scene. Just like "The Passion of the Christ" that Mel Gibson produced back in 2004, "The Bible" series has raised the bar for biblical entertainment.
Both "The Passion of the Christ" and "The Bible" series show that there can be spectacularly well done features on the stories of the bible that bring them to life in a real and authentic way to connect with people but they have to be produced and directed by someone who is completely passionate about making everything as true to life and scripture as possible. If someone thinks they can just make a quick buck and put out some fake bearded guys with cheesy scenery, it will not go over well with Christians or the general public.
Hopefully the "Jesus of Nazareth" series will be well done and another compelling series to watch and inspire believers and non-believers alike. We will have to wait and see.
