'The Bible' Miniseries on History Channel Producers Upset With Today's Youth
Though The Bible, History Channel's epic new miniseries, has been dragged through the mud by critics, the show's ratings have been nothing short of a miracle. A proven must-watch spring TV event, The Bible has earned over 70 million viewers (including encore presentations on Lifetime).
Though success usually means you make your job look easy, The Bible didn't create itself; especially not overnight. Married producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey spent months in the heat of Morocco filming The Bible.
"I know it's epic, and I think it will be the must-watch event of the spring," she adds. "You'll see the Red Sea parted with the latest special effects that are available. We have Hans Zimmer creating the score ... We have Noah, we have Abraham, we have Moses. We have Jesus walking on water. We have scenes coming to life in extraordinary ways. Yes, it's going to be a faith journey, but it's also going to be really exciting and dynamic television."
Upset that the Bible isn't being taught in public school, and that today's youth have widespread ignorance regarding the sacred text, Burnett and Downey hope their show will encourage non-believers to take an interest in believing.
"I think it's going to bring the Bible alive in new and exciting ways to a lot of people. I think it's really going to touch another generation," says the actress. Covering Genesis through Revelation, the series concludes this Easter Sunday.
Tune in tonight for The Bible miniseries finale on History Channel at 8/7c.
