Betty White Death Hoax: Fans Misread Article About Actress, How She 'Dyes' Her Hair

Contrary to the rumors and "RIP" posts on social media, the witty 92-year-old actress Betty White is not dead. In fact, a homophone used in an article published on the satirical website Empire News sparked rumors that the actress had died in her Los Angeles home.

The hoax was sparked after the article that was published used the word "Dyes" to insinuate the word "Dies" and trick unsuspecting readers.

The Empire News headline read, "Actress Betty White, 92, dyes peacefully in her Los Angeles home." Unfortunately, many readers did not realize that the writer cleverly used the homophone to confuse the readers.

It is obvious that most fans did not have the patience to read the article further, as the whole thing was a lighthearted "interview" with the Betty White's agent regarding how the actress' not a natural blond, along with supposed quotes from Betty, herself, about her changeover from brunette to blond.

White supposedly told the writer, "Oh, I started dying it ages ago when my color started to fade away to a more whiteish, greyish color." adding, "I thought to myself, 'Well Betty, if you can't have the dark color anymore, might as well try on the blonde for a while,' and it just kind of stuck. When I played Rose on Girls, the joke about my natural hair color made it into several episodes. I've always had a sense of humor about it."

Los Angeles Times reported that White's agent, Jeff Witjas has assured them that the actress was alive and well, "She is on the set shooting Hot in Cleveland right now," he said.
