'Beetlejuice 2' Cast News: Screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith Talks Upcoming Film Sequel
Fans can finally end speculation by Michael Keaton's vague responses on the subject, and rest assured that the "Beetlejuice 2" film is well underway. According to screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith, filming can start as early as the end of this year.
On that note, Smith expanded on this in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly:
"I've emailed with Michael Keaton. I know he's excited about the idea. I know Tim [Burton] is excited about the idea.." adding, "deals are done, and we're waiting in the wings ready to go right after Peregrine's wraps up. The ideal timeline is we're really getting into it toward the end of this year."
Smith refers to Burton's current project, "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children."
Winona Ryder, actress who played the main character Lydia in the original, has also been confirmed by Burton to reprise her role.
"I think we landed on the right idea, landed on the right approach. It's just now making sure that-for me-I don't want to s**t my pants in front of the entire world making a sequel to one of my favorite movies," Smith comments.
The screenwriter has alot depending on him, as the bar is already set so high for the iconic film. In fact, this whole year the writer will find himself in the captain's chair commandeering a bunch of reboots and sequels.
Aside from a "Beetlejuice" sequel, Smith will be working on a "Gremlins" reboot, a Stephen King's "It" reboot, along with many other otherworldly projects. You could say the writer has his hands full with a bunch of adult's childhoods right now.
For fans worried on the outcome of the "Beetlejuice" sequel, it is not very likely that Burton would allow one of his most prized movies get dragged through the dirt. With Burton still on his game, and Keaton coming back into major roles, it should be safe to say it's in good hands.
