Beauty and the Beast Movie 2014 Release Date, Rumors: Kristen Stewart to Play Belle?
With the recent ground breaking success of the film Maleficent garnering $170 Million worldwide in its opening weekend, rumor has it that Disney is working fast on another live-action fairy tale adaptation. It has been reported that there will be a Beauty and the Beast movie directed by Bill Condon.
Maleficent proved to film makers and producers that the classics can be phenomenal once again. Adding a little more action and intensity, Disney hopes to recreate Beauty and the Beast into a box office hit.
Disney seems to be on the right track in their decision to hire Oscar-winning director Condon as the director for the upcoming film. There are also reports saying that Evan Spiliotopoulos is writing the script with Mandeville Films producing.
The production has not released any official announcements yet as to who will be the members of the cast, but recent reports claim that since Condon has also directed Twilight, it may be actress Kristen Stewart who will play Belle in the upcoming movie.
Stewart has not responded to the rumors which leaves it unknown whether she will play the part, and the production, which is in its early stages probably has not decided who to choose just yet.
Additionally, reports claim that Condon will include most, if not all, of the Menken/Rice songs from the Broadway musical that ran for 13 years from 1994 to 2007. It will be a straight-forward, live action, large-budget movie musical.
It will not be a surprise if the film turns out to be as successful as Maleficent. However, there is still no official statement regarding its release date.
Interestingly enough, other fairy tale adaptations are in the works like, The Little Mermaid, directed by Sofia Coppola, Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh, and The Jungle Book, directed by Jon Favreau. Disney is evidently not slowing down in producing more live-action films.
