Battlefield Hardline Release Date News: EA Confirms Fall 2014 Launch, Focus on 'War on Crime' (VIDEO)

EA Games has announced the release date of the newest addition to the Battlefield franchise titled "Battlefield: Hardline."

"The game launches this fall and it's a brand new series in the Battlefield franchise, set against the backdrop of a genre we all love - the war on crime and the battle between cops and criminals," wrote Visceral Games Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis on the official EA Games blog on May 27.

Historically, the Battlefield games have usually focused on historical warfare such as "Battlefield 1942" and Battlefield Vietnam to name a few, which were based on World War 2 and the Vietnam War, respectively.

However, since the release of "Battlefield 3" (2011) and "Battlefield 4" (2013), the franchise have been focusing on modern day warfare, which allows gamers to utilize present day vehicles and weaponry in the war on terrorism.

Now, EA and Visceral Games will shift gears again and focus on the "war on crime," when gamers can choose to play as either the police or thugs in either single player or multiplayer mode.

"There's been a lot of buzz today about Battlefield Hardline - we're getting ready for E3 and fans found some details on our website about what we're working on for the show. We've been reading all of your comments and we're excited to be going into more detail soon on the ways we're adding new twists and turns to the foundation of Battlefield multiplayer and more about how we're bringing our strengths at Visceral to single player," wrote Papoutsis.

Papoutsis also revealed in his blog that more information regarding the upcoming "Battlefield" game will be revealed during their press conference at E3 on June 9 at 9 am EST.

"Battlefield: Hardline" will arrive in stores for the PC, PS4, Xbox 360 and next gen consoles: PS3 and the Xbox One in Fall 2014.
