Battlefield 4 Dragon Teeth Weapons: Expansion Pack Introduces Two-Handed Ballistic Shield

Battlefield 4 Dragon's Teeth expansion pack will come with a two-handed ballistic shield among new upgrades.

According to Polygon, the developers wanted it to be a cover for players to shoot around with a variety of handguns. EA DICE instead turned it into a "movable" piece of cover.

"It turns out that stopping bullets in a first-person shooter is a ton of fun," said senior animator Ryan Duffin, reported Polygon. "We didn't have enough memory. It added about a megabyte, but a megabyte on a 2006 console is a lot, so it didn't work out."

Duffin said the team tested out three ideas but ultimately could not get those to work. The idea of the two handed shield came about, and they developed it so it could be used as a melee attack.

"There was a lot of resistance at first," he said. "But the more we assessed it, the more we realized it was a better feature."

Time will tell as DICE hopes the shield will became a classic piece of their game when it arrives this summer.

In other news, Battlefield 4 Platoon is now live for all platforms, and will look to shake up online gameplay by having better communication with up to 100 players.

"Platoons in Battlefield 4 is a way for you and your friends to get together, organize yourselves, communicate, and fight together to improve your Platoon. Whether you want to share experiences in a more private space, or show the world who has the most skilled, most awesome Battlefield 4 team around, Platoons is the way to go," wrote the Battlefield Blog.

The Battlefield Blog left a set of instructions on how to access Platoons, and thanked the fans of the game for all the positive feedback. Additional info can be found here.

The first parts of Platoon launched on February 27, and received great feedback.
