'Batman vs Superman' Movie Release Date, Cast Rumors: Will Newest D.C. Blockbuster Face-Off with Highly Anticipated Captain America 3?
There are many reasons to await the release of "Batman vs. Superman:" Hollywood's newest generation of D.C.'s two most popular characters sharing the same screen. Seeing whether certain casting choices that have caused an uproar among fans will end up reflecting well on the makers of the film. And possibly, how will the A-list superhero flick fare in the box office in comparison to the third installment of Marvel's popular superhero film series: Captain America.
The controversy for this film just doesn't seem to let up, first swarming around the concept of a Ben Affleck Batman, and then flaring up even more fiercely at the idea of Lex Luthor being played by Jesse Eisenberg.
Even Wonder Woman's casting of Israeli "Fast and the Furious" star Gal Godot brought up some questions.
Fans were excited to see that these legendary crime fighters of the D.C. Universe would finally cross paths on the silver screen, but these surprising bits of news, and others, such as the absence of Christopher Nolan on the role of producers, has to some given the film a dim aura of foreboding.
Finally, there was the news that the potential release date of this film, May 6th, would be directly competing with the release date of an unnamed Marvel superhero film (strongly thought to be Captain America 3), leaving some to believe that this would be the first instance of a Marvel comics superhero film and a D.C. Comics Superhero Film hitting the theatres on the same day.
Neither one, it seems, will move the release date. Would this turn into a fight between studios and divide fans of the two comic book universes?
Chances are the situation will be resolved amicably, but certainly no studio will seek to handicap another's box office draw.
Every superhero movie that does well paves the way for several more, so we will probably see a solution that allows both movies to do well.
In the meantime, we can enjoy the casts of the two films making pointed comments and shooting down the one or the other comic book brand (as Samuel L. Jackson does here) but it's unlikely that there will be any real contest for box office supremacy.
