'Batman vs Superman' Cast Rumors, Plot Spoilers: Russell Crowe Will Not Return in 'Man of Steel 2' Sequel

"Noah" star Russell Crowe played as Superman's noble father Jor-El in the 2013 "Man of Steel" movie, but he will not return to upcoming "Batman vs Superman" film, according to numerous reports. The "American Gangster" and "A Beautiful Mind" star addressed the rumor in a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies when he was promoting the brand new "Noah" film.

"I don't think they're going to use me again. I think they're jumping onto a different stream. You know, they're going with the different superhero worlds colliding," said Crowe to Yahoo! Movies.

The upcoming "Batman vs Superman" film will feature some of Crowe's former co-stars such as Henry Cavill (Clark Kent aka Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent). In addition, new actors will also appear in the new Warner Bros. film, including Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.

The "Gladiator" and "Cinderella Man" actor also recently used social media to discuss the probability of a "Man of Steel" prequel that takes place in Superman's home planet Krypton.

"A lot of you are asking about a Krypton prequel, if that's something you feel strongly about let @Legendary pictures know your thoughts," wrote Crowe via his Twitter account.

It appears that Russell Crowe's Jor-El character will not be meeting the Cape Crusader when his son Kal-El (played by Henry Cavill) finally meets his future Justice League teammate for the first time in movie history. However, Warner has been more effective in keeping their casting news a secret as compared to Marvel or Fox. Jesse Eisenberg being cast was not foreseen and the role of Batman had plenty of candidates. However, experts never considered Ben Affleck as The Caped Crusader at any point.

The "Batman vs. Superman" movie will appear in theaters on May 6, 2016.
