'Batman' Movie News: Warner Bros. Approaches Ben Affleck for New Trilogy After 'Batman vs Superman'

If latest reports are to be believed, Warner Bros. has approached Ben Affleck to write, direct as well as star in three solo Batman movies for the DC Extended Universe. The offer was reportedly made after the early screening of the upcoming movie 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' to the film's crew and Warner Bros. executives.

Quoting a report in Den of Geek, Christian Today states that after seeing the actor/ director's performance in 'Batman v Superman,' Warner Bros. executives described Affleck as the "definitive Batman." The report further says that Warner Bros. now wants to make the DC Extended Universe films revolve around the Caped Crusader portrayed by Affleck, emphasizing on Batman rather than Henry Cavill's Superman.

Even before to the screening of the movie, Affleck was already ready to work on a solo Batman film, which is scheduled to be released some time in 2018. However, production for this solo movie will not commence anytime soon since the actor is still keen on portraying Bruce Wayne aka Batman for 'Justice League' Parts 1 and 2, while simultaneously shooting cameo scenes for other DC Extended Universe films.

Meanwhile two other projects of Affleck, 'The Accountant' and 'Live by Night,' have already been delayed by several months and now the former will be released in October 2016, while the latter is expected to be released some time in 2017.

However, /Film reports that the delays were made before the early screening of 'Batman v Superman,' suggesting that Affleck's shooting schedule for the two 'Justice League' films may be responsible for the delay, rather than his current busier schedule for the solo 'Batman' films.

In any case, the shooting of 'The Accountant' is already complete and it is currently in post-production stage, while 'Live by Night' is scheduled to commence production this November, much before Affleck will be required for the first solo 'Batman' film. As of now, the release dates for the other two 'Batman' films have not been announced.

'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' will hit theaters on March 25, 2016.
