Barbara Walters Retirement Date Announced: Special Honoring Her Achievements to Air

ABC has announced the official retirement of well-known host of "The View" Barbara Walters. Fans still have a chance to catch her in action, as her last date on the show will be Friday May 16.

Robert A. Iger, the chairman and chief executive of The Walt Disney Company recently spoke about the retirement of the beloved Barbara Walters.

"In this business there are legends, there are icons, and then there is Barbara Walters," he said.

Iger went on to speak on a more personal level about Walters's career and her impact on the television industry.

"She's a dear friend and colleague as well as someone I deeply admire, and it's impossible to fully convey her impact and influence on television. She broke barriers, defied convention, made history and set the standard for journalistic excellence for more than 50 years.  It's hard to imagine television without her," the chairman and chief executive said.

Honoring Walter, ABC will air a two-hour long documentary entitled "ABC: A Barbara Celebration." The special will air the same day as Walters' last appearance on "The View." Tune into ABC on May 16 at 9/8c to catch the special documentary.
