Orioles return to ALCS for the first time since winning the World Series in 1983 (versus the Philadelphia Phillies), now Baltimore looks defend their home field advantage when they face the Royals in their upcoming match.
Orioles skipper Buck Showalter recently gave his thoughts regarding the future series between two of the best teams in baseball.
"These [teams] are the best the world has to offer," said Showalter to reporters.
"So everybody is very capable. Everybody's got strengths and weaknesses, and we're just excited and honored to be a part of it."
Previously, the Orioles swept the Tigers out of postseason contention after Baltimore defeated the Detroit squad by a final score of 2-1 in Game 3 of the 2014 ALDS.
Meanwhile, The Royals are looking to win their first World Series since 1985 (versus the St. Louis Cardinals), but first Kansas City must defeat Baltimore in the best-of-seven series.
"The crowd, it's an unbelievable atmosphere," said Royals starter James Shields to reporters prior to his upcoming Game 1 start versus the Orioles on Friday night.
"It's an unbelievable atmosphere. This is a special time in this city right now, and they're enjoying this as much as we are. To be able to win in front of the home crowd is nice. I mean, this is the best atmosphere I've ever been a part of. To be able to do it in front of our fans is great."
Previously, the Royals swept the Angels out of postseason contention after Kansas City defeated Los Angeles by a final score of 8-3 in Game 3 of the 2014 ALDS.
