After more than a year of being behind the limelight 'Sk8r Boi' singer Avril Lavigne is back and grateful for overcoming her Lyme Disease battle and is now back on stage performing a special Olympics opening ceremony in LA inspiring many for her great courage battling the disease that left her bedridden in the past year.
It has been an unfortunate that Lavigne experienced such battle in life and now that she is up and in a sparkling black gown at last Saturday night's Opening Ceremony of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games, Lavigne shared how happy she was to be able to perform once again.
"I just sang FLY on stage for the FIRST time ALL THE WAY THROUGH live tonight in rehearsal," Lavigne on Instagram Friday before performing. "Making what feels like the impossible possible......Fighting through Lyme Disease. 'Just Reach Up Don't Give Up' so happy to be working with the Special Olympics LA 2015. Grateful," she added.
Her sudden diagnosis of the disease had many of her family, friends, and supporters giving the singer extra love and support as she battled Lyme Disease just after turning 30 last October. "Honestly, I felt very, very loved," Lavigne previously shared with Good Morning America. "And it sounds silly saying it, but I really truly did feel my fans through the process."
"For me, it's like a second shot at life. I really just want to go out there and truly do what I love so I'm so excited for life after this," she continued. Apparently, since then Lavigne wanted to reach out and now, she announces that all of the net proceeds from her single 'Fly' will go to the Special Olympics.
"I wanted the athletes to be the stars of the video and, just like the message of the song, to show the world that they can overcome the challenges and that everyone is meant to shine," she shared. "It's just about inner strength and courage. This song took on a whole new meaning for me while I was sick, which was pretty magical."
