Avengers 2 Age of Ultron Movie Cast Rumors: Marvel Praises James Spader Portrayal of Ultron
In a recent interview, Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige recently talked about actor James Spader joining the cast as Ultron in the upcoming "Avengers 2 Age of Ultron" movie.
"Our bad guy is great. I think people are going to very, very excited to see what we're doing with the voice that Joss (Whedon) is bringing to life with James Spader for Ultron. We love Ultron from the comics, and have always loved Ultron, and at no point do we want him to just be a robot," said Feige to Movies.com in a recent interview. "We want him to have an extreme personality and attitude, and James Spader is doing an unbelievable job. Again, for us it's always about subverting expectations. Whenever you think you know what's coming next, we surprise people or deliver it in a slightly unexpected way. And Spader is doing that with Mr. Ultron."
Previously, film director and writer Joss Whedon revealed how he felt about making Spader's character (Ultron) the toughest adversary in the movie.
"I'm having a blast with Ultron," said Whedon to Empire Magazine. "He's not a creature of logic - he's a robot who's genuinely disturbed. We're finding out what makes him menacing and at the same time endearing and funny and strange and unexpected, and everything a robot never is."
Actor James Spader is best known for starring in movies and television shows such as "Boston Legal," "Pretty in Pink" and "The Blacklist."
In another interview, Whedon talked about Ultron's main goal in the new Avengers 2 sequel.
"He's always trying to destroy the Avengers, god*** it, he's got a bee in his bonnet. He's not a happy guy, which means he's an interesting guy. He's got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we'll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone (a new character, Scarlet Witch) who's a witch," said Whedon in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last year.
Robert Downey Jr will return as Iron Man to lead the all-star cast against Ultron.
Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) are among the numerous actors set to reprise their roles when the smash hit returns to the big screen on May 1, 2015.
