Avengers 2 Age of Ultron Movie: What Fans Can Expect From Mark Ruffalo as Hulk
In a recent interview, Andy Serkis talked about starring and helping with Mark Ruffalo's motion capture performance (as the Incredible Hulk) in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron movie.
"The Imaginarium is the performance capture consultant, and I'm playing a role (in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars Episode 7). On 'The Avengers,' I've been working closely with Mark Ruffalo," said Serkis to Variety, "Performance capture was used on the previous Hulk, but not to the same extent Mark is using it now. There are tools and ways of working with an actor that makes them feel that they own the character. And a character the size of the Hulk needs ownership, which Mark has now."
When asked whether or not he would appear in the movie as himself or as a creature (using special effects similar to his role as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy), Serkis had the following response, "I'm not at liberty to mention. But it's all the same to me. I've never drawn a distinction when playing a role, whether it be live action or performance capture. Acting is acting. It's just basically what you wear to the set that's different."
Serkis also revealed there is one role that he would love to play as in a future movie.
"I've always been a huge admirer of Charles Laughton's Hunchback of Notre Dame, not that he's a big monster really, but that is absolutely a role I might like to play."
Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Evans (Captain America), James Spader (Ultron), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) are among the numerous actors set to appear in the movie when the blockbuster series returns on May 1, 2015.
