'Avatar' fans have recently been hit with rumors and spoilers concerning the sequel to the blockbuster film, and how 'Avatar 2' is looking at a 2016 release date.

While there is no official news yet, Director James Cameron had a few choice words about the new addition:

"The first film...took almost four years to make. We expected to be able to accelerate the process quite a bit, because we've improved a lot of the software and the computer graphics tools, and we've been working very closely with Weta Digital down here in New Zealand developing a whole new suite of tools to speed up the process."

He added that the new film is in an early stage, with production working on the scripts, the designs for the characters, and the movie's setting. He also mentions that fans can expect sequels every year, starting December, 2016.

Each sequel will have its own fulfilling storyline, in addition to being a part of a bigger story arc. Heroes will also explore the other moons of Polyphemus and 'Avatar 2' will explore the Na'vi culture in more detail.

Interesting oceans of Pandora will also be explored and there will be more volcanoes too. The storyline of the movie will be set taking place several years from where the first film left off. Also, several 'Avatar' sequels are to be shot together at once and will be edited in a post production process, but not released together.

The sequels would be an overall spiritual journey, according to 'Star Trek 3' star, Zoe Saldana. It is also said that the forthcoming 'Avatar' films would be available in 3D.
