Avatar 2, 3, 4 Release Date Revealed: Films in Pre-Production, Movies Set to Premiere One After Another 2016 to 2018

Speaking at a promotional event for his documentary, 'Deep Sea Challenge 3D', award-winning director James Cameron revealed that Twentieth Century Fox Film's 'Avatar' plans are all mapped-out for three of its installments.

According to Cameron, pre-production for the much-awaited billion-dollar film franchise is well underway, and that production will roll out as scheduled, despite news of 'Avatar' main star Zoe Saldana's pregnancy. Saldana recently revealed that she is with child by her husband, artist Marco Perego.

Despite Saldana's pregnancy, Cameron is optimistic that everything will still go as planned, citing that the 36-year-old actress's present condition shouldn't hinder 'Avatar' film production as the movies would only require 'performance captures' of her.

Cameron also added that at the current rate of pre-production, filming for the first 'Avatar' sequel is not expected to start until early next year. 'Avatar 2' promises even more impressive 3D animation than its predecessor, as Cameron mentioned that a team of software engineers will be working to ensure that the sequel's visual effects will be even greater than that of the original movie.

However, the extra focus on the visuals for the film will surely add to its production time.

Although Cameron has confirmed that the 'Avatar' movies are already in their pre-production stages, the plot for the upcoming movies has yet to be unraveled.

The forthcoming 'Avatar' film series will be filming in New Zealand, Hollywood's go-to place when it comes to performance capture technology, with the first of its installments, 'Avatar 2' slated to premiere Christmas of 2016, followed by 'Avatar 3', scheduled to be released in 2017, and the fourth 'Avatar' film set to premiere sometime in 2018.
