Australian Baseball Player the Random Target and Victim of a Murder by Three Teens

Three teenage boys have been charged with first-degree murder in Oklahoma. Australian baseball player Christopher Lane was visiting the town of Duncan in Oklahoma where his girlfriend lives. Police described the murder as a random act of violence. One of the three boys told Police Chief Dan Ford, "We were bored and didn't have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody." Lane was just an innocent jogger who was targeted at random after jogging passed the home where the boys were staying.

The boy's ages fifteen and sixteen were charged with first-degree murder with no bond set. The seventeen year old who was driving the vehicle as the shot was fired was also charged, but had a bond that was set at one million dollars. The seventeen year old stated in open court, "I pulled the trigger."

After the shooting a woman who saw Lane staggering across the street and fall to the ground quickly called the police. Lane's autopsy has yet to come in and the public doesn't know for sure how many times the teens shot the Lane and investigators have yet to locate the murder weapon. It is unclear whether the boys will charged as adults or juveniles in this murder investigation.

Lane and girlfriend Sarah Harper had only been in the United States for one week since being in Australia.
