Audrie Pott [PHOTOS]: Teen Commits Suicide After Pictures of Rape Posted Online, 3 16-Year Old Boys Arrested
15-year old Audrie Pott hanged herself after reportedly being sexually assaulted by three 16-year old boys, who later posted pictures of the crime online, eventually going viral. In September, tormented by the aftermath of the assault Pott committed suicide eight days later.
Before taking her life she posted on Facebook, "the whole school knows" and "my life is like ruined now," according to Pott family lawyer Robert Allard.
"After an extensive investigation that we have conducted on behalf of the family, there is no doubt in our minds that the victim, then only 15 years old, was savagely assaulted by her fellow high school students while she lay on a bed completely unconscious," Allard added.
The alleged sex criminals that abused Audrie were arrested seven months after she killed herself. Since all three boys are underage, their names cannot be released to the media. Audrie Pott's father and stepmother insisted on using their daughter's name to spread awareness of the case.
Mr. and Mrs. Pott also organized the Audrie Pott Foundation in the wake of their daughter's suicide. The foundation provides art and music scholarship as well as youth counseling for bullied teens. The foundation's website reads this message:
"She was compassionate about life, her friends, her family, and would never do anything to harm anyone. She was in the process of developing the ability to cope with the cruelty of this world but had not quite figured it all out. Ultimately, she had not yet acquired the antibiotics to deal with the challenges present for teens in today's society."
Friends and loved ones have expressed an incredible amount of support in response to Audrie's sinister attack and tragic death.
