As I Lay Dying Singer Tim Lambesis Claims 'One in 10 Christian Bands' are Truly Believers; Says Artists are Just After a Paycheck

Currently imprisoned vocalist of As I Lay Dying, Tim Lambesis, made a startling (if true) claim in a recent interview, that most bands who claim to be Christian, are in fact, not.

"We toured with more 'Christian bands' who actually aren't Christians than bands that are. In 12 years of touring with As I Lay Dying, I would say maybe one in 10 Christian bands we toured with were actually Christian bands," Lambesis said to Alternative Press in his only interview since being charged with attempting to place a hit out on his wife.

He claims that most of these bands are just in it for the paycheck and not in fact religious or practicing.

"We talked about whether to keep taking money from the 'Christian market'. We had this bizarrely 'noble' thing, like, 'Well, we're not passing along any bad ideas. We're just singing about real life stuff. Those kids need to hear about real life, because they live in a bubble."

Lambesis said, that over the last few years, most of the band had abandoned Christianity and had become atheists. He said although they felt bad about it, if them being "Christian" helped kids and parents feel better about themselves and the music they were listening to, they "didn't want to take that away from them."

"A lot of Christian parents said, 'Yes, you can buy this As I Lay Dying CD, because they're a Christian band.' They don't even think to actually check the lyrics. So when you change your views, you kind of owe it to the fans to be honest," Lambesis replied to a question asking about the band's last release which came across darker than usual.

"A month before your arrest, you posted a YouTube video addressing fans who felt your new side project, Pyrithion, was 'satanic.' I remember watching the video at the time and noticing you never gave the easy answer: 'Of course not. I'm a Christian!' You knew people thought of you as a Christian. Weren't you lying by omission?" Lambesis was asked by AP's Ryan J. Downey.

"As far as the [YouTube] video I did explaining Pyrithion's lyrics ... I was trying to put out a fire. I was afraid it would affect As I Lay Dying sales, which would affect my overall income. I was trying to put out the fire by saying the easiest thing, 'I'm not a satanist!'" Lambesis stated.
He continued, "Truthfully, I was an atheist," he said. Lambesis explained that some of the songs on the album covered topics such as learning that "life has no meaning." He thought these outright messages would confuse his audience and be "bad" for his career.

The 33-year-old was reported to be in a custody dispute with his wife Meggan over his three children last spring. At his gym he asked a trainer friend if they knew someone that could kill his wife. The personal trainer contacted the police and an undercover detective met with the singer.

CharismaNews reported that Lambesis admitted he would pay $1,000 in cash for the murder and another $19,000 once the deed was done. In those initial meetings with the detective he provided photos, security codes, alibi's, and dates of when he would have the children.

He is currently serving a six year sentence, and said he has given his life back to God.
