Arlington Church Devastated by Second Fire This Year but Pastor Says "We Will Rebuild"
The town of Arlington, Oregon suffered a tragic blow to its Christian community after a fire devastated a church, leaving nothing but ash and remnants of the holy building.
Still the town and church community isn't giving up faith. Though the 1890s-built Church of Nazarene has been described as a "total loss" via their official Facebook page, they know that material can be destroyed by fire, but not God.
"There is sad news to report. This morning the church building burnt. It was a complete loss. But I can tell you the church will survive. We are the church and we will make it through. God is bigger than a fire. We will continue to lean on him and we will rebuild," the Facebook post read.
The fire was reported at 4:36 a.m. yesterday morning after a church member could see it from his home and immediately contacted Pastor David Gossett.
This isn't the first time the Arlington Church had been engulfed in flames. Repairs have been ongoing since a fire damaged parts of the church's exterior. Residual effects like smoke and water damage cripple the inside as well.
Pastor Gossett was optimistic services could start back up around Christmas.
"They had just painted it so the soot was gone. It just looked shiny bright and clean," said former pastor Connie Jo Yutzie. "And so we were really looking forward to getting back in there."
Gilliam County deputies and arson officials are still investigating the cause of both suspicious fires.
