‘Archer’ Season 6 News, Spoilers: Series Removes ISIS Agency From Show- Signs Painted Over
When 'Archer', the adult animated TV series returns for Season 6, the International Secret Intelligence Service, otherwise known as ISIS, will no longer carry that moniker or be part of the show.
Adam Reed, the show's creator revealed that Season 6 will contain 13 episodes, and the name change stems from issues concerning the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.
Ever since 'Archer' Season 5 ended, controversy has flooded the show's producers and FX executives regarding the name of the International spy agency.
The agency unfortunately used the same acronym as the serious and violent militant group based in Syria and Iraq who beheaded American journalist James Foley last August.
In response, the cast and crew confirmed at the New York based Comic Con that "ISIS" will be dropped from the show.
'Archer' has been part of the ISIS agency since the show hit the air in 2009.
Executive Producer Matt Thompson detailed how the show plans to remove ISIS, which was essentially the core of the series.
The change will reported to be seen in the show as movers will reportedly roll away a large ISIS sign in the background behind Malory Archer (Jessica Walter), while other ISIS signs will be "painted out" and "will not be spoken aloud again."
Furthermore, FX also pulled out all of the products carrying the name on their online store.
Aside from that, Walter recorded new lines for the series to emphasize that the cast will now work for the C.I.A.
Meanwhile, several other organizations were also affected by the same-name confusion.
A mobile wallet app of Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile had the same name, and immediately changed it to Softcard.
"We have no interest in sharing a name with a group whose name has become synonymous with violence," CEO Michael Abbott stated.
The Daily Mirror reports that a coffee shop in Manchester, England bearing the same name has also changed its name following the beheading of a Manchester-based British aid worker by the militant group.
