Apple Smart Watch Release Date Rumors: New iWatch, 1.5 Inch OLED Displays, 2013 Release? [VIDEO]
The Apple iWatch!
While everybody else is busy talking about the new iPhone 5S and iPad 5, reports have surfaced Apple is working on a new "smart" watch. Taiwanese publication, Economic Times claims Apple has begun testing 1.5-inch OLDED displays, supplied by RITEK. Some earlier reports say Apple is considering a screen closer to 2 inches.
With all the hype, little to nothing is known. The smart watch release date is still a mystery. Some reports guarantee Apple will release the device in 2013. In April Apple CEO Time Cook promised, "some really great stuff coming in the fall and across all of 2014." Could that great stuff be a new smart watch?
What features will come with the Apple iWatch. Will it have the iOS software? Will it have Siri, Apple's patented voice assistant? What about Apple maps? Will the new smart watch be 3G capable? One thing's for certain...it won't be an iPhone. It's physically impossible for the watch to be able to perform the same tasks as Apple's featured device.
Rumors about Apple's plunge into the smart watch market began earlier in the year after a couple stories were published in the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg. The reports claim the Apple smart watch would have a curved design that is form-fitting to the users wrist.
Since then other companies like Google, Microsoft and Samsung have been rumored to be developing similar tech accessories.
Since the late great Apple co-founder Steve Jobs passed last year, public perception of Apple has dwindled a bit. Maybe competition is just getting more competitive [Samsung Galaxy S4 = "it" phone of the moment]. Regardless, Apple CEO Tim Cook needs a homerun if the company's going to transition to the next era, that they helped create.
Could "wearable" technology be the next big thing? Google Glass is gaining a lot of steam. Still in development phase, Google Glass could redefine the relationship between fashion and technology. Could the Apple iWatch shatter the next decade like the iPhone did 10 years ago?
