iOS 8 & Apple Pay Update, News: Version 8.1, Wallet App Details for iPhone 6 Plus

While Apple fans have been talking about the latest update to the iOS 8, new rumors have sprouted about Apple's wallet system- Apple Pay.

According to a leaked memo from MacRumors over the weekend, the software could be released as early as October 18. Those who wish to use this service will need to have an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus updated with iOS 8.1, ready and waiting.

This all comes following the recent issues surrounding Apple's iOS 8, including the inability to make calls or utilize the Touch ID feature.

To counter the issues, Apple has unveiled a beta version- iOS 8.1, which intends to fix the flaws in the operation system.

The beta test revealed some notable changes. According to 9to5Mac, the icons in the Notification Center widget list appeared to be bigger, also, dictation is now optional and can be disabled separately from Siri in the keyboard settings.

On a side note, the iBooks icon now matches promotional images.

For now, some of the things that the iOS 8.1 is expected to bring will be device specific, such as Apple Pay support for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, as well as the Touch ID support for the upcoming iPad Air 2.

With concerns regarding the security of Apple Pay, the iOS 8.1 beta is said to have a hidden screen for Apple Pay which reveals a pane where one may enter credit or debit card information.

According to CNET, a tweet posted by a developer named Hamza Sood shows what appears to be a screenshot taken from the beta for iOS 8.1. The screencap shows textbox fields where one may enter card information, billing and shipping addresses, an email address, and a telephone number.

In addition to Apple Pay and the update to iOS 8, Apple is slated to release the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 at their Keynote Event on October 16.
