iOS 7.1.1 Release Date: Download for iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPad, Mini; iOS 8 to Release on Sept.
Apple announced on Tuesday the latest iOS software update that features minor improvements from its last major release. The 7.1.1 should be readily available over the air through iTunes and is compatible with latest Apple mobile units. This includes iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, as well as Retina iPads, iPad Minis, and 5th Generation iPod touch.
A major part of the OS update focuses on the Touch ID fingerprint recognition program that tries to resolve "fade" scanner issues. Apple has said that the technical glitch was already addressed during the release of iOS 7.1, but they are hoping that the solutions are going to work this time.
Other updates cover patches for the Bluetooth keyboard with voice-over enabled, which enhances the overall responsiveness of the handset. There are also significant bug fixes and security updates to prevent hacks and information theft on third party websites.
Users are advised not to update to the 7.1.1 version if they plan to jailbreak their unit.
iPhone and iPad users can go directly to iTunes to download the 25MB iOS update from the store.
If for some reason the firmware is inaccessible on the site, alternative links are provided for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch respectively. It is important to do a refresh or restart on the unit for the changes to take effect.
Apple fans will also be excited about the next major release of the iOS 8 scheduled for a release date of September 2014. Rumor has it that the next generation of iOS will focus primarily on health and fitness with Apple's iWatch smartwatch along with a new interface design.
