‘Angry Birds 2’ Sales News: Game Hits 30 Million Downloads, Hugely Popular in China

Finnish video game developer and publisher, Rovio Entertainment Ltd. has just announced that its latest game 'Angry Birds 2' has been downloaded more than 30 million times since it was released on July 30 - just two months ago! According to the company, to a great extent, it achieved the milestone owing to the games huge success in China.

According to a report in IB Times, about 30 percent of the 30 million downloads were in China, which has emerged as a potential growth region for the gaming industry, which, until recently, faced problems owing to government censorship and bans on hardware.

A press release issued by Rovio reads, "What a great start to the Angry Birds 2 journey." It adds, "But keep those slingshots well waxed and in good working order. The adventure on Piggy Island is just getting started, and exciting surprises wait around the corner."

The status of 'Angry Bird 2' as a free-to-play title makes it useless to compare the game with the paid-for original of 2009. However, it is worth mentioning here that the first 'Angry Birds' took as long as nine months to reach the 20 million mark. This was, in fact, much before the popularisation of mobile games.

According to the report, the series' success has seen it make the best of the trends of the mobile game industry. This is one reason why 'Angry Birds 2' is so much different from the original game. 'Angry Bird 2' adopted several free-to-play attributed, which mainly serve the eventual purpose of making players willing to pay for means to beat the game more easily.

In fact, this is also one reason why critics have not acclaimed the sequel, but that does not seem to make any difference as the game is doing incredibly well. The sales figures are an excellent early pointer of how much money Rovio may make from the game, however, the actual success of 'Angry Birds 2' will not  be known till the figures are made public.

Currently, 'Angry Birds 2' is available for iOS and Android devices.
