Angie Miller of American Idol 2013 Signs Publishing & Composition Deal with Universal Music Group

When "American Idol" season twelve finalist Angie Miller performed her original song "You Set Me Free" on the show, it (as well as she) received rave reviews. But, she most likely did not expect that it would get her noticed more as a songwriter than as a singer. After all, this is a singing show... isn't it? Well, after signing her first big publishing deal with Universal Music Group, Miller looks to break the mold of the typical singer-American-Idol-alumnus, and make her way not just as a beautiful voice; but as a songstress as well.

As if it wasn't enought that Miller got a publishing deal with one of the largest music companies in the world, the deal that UMG gave her was a good one, too. She signed an "exclusive co-publishing deal." This gives the company ownership rights over her current and future compositions as well as administrator privileges over her work. With the major deal being inked by Miller, 2013 is looking to be a lucrative year for the third placer. If you're a singer who can write and perform, you'll get income from multiple avenues. Publishing royalties, record sales, live performances, etc.

Speaking of a record, one might not be too far off for Miller. She has hinted in interviews in the past the she "close" to finalizing a deal to coordinate the release of her first full-length album post-American Idol. Champion Candice Glover is gearing up for the July 16 release of her debut "Music Speaks", while runner-up Kree Harrison also has an album and single release coming up, with the cover artwork already shot.

Universal Music has partnered with "Idol" to release music by the shows' alums, particularly the top winner and the runner-up, which is exactly what happened in the case of season ten couple Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina and season eleven's Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez. Stay tuned for info on albums from Angie Miller, Candice Glover, and Kree Harrison.
