After 13 long years of marriage, Jason Sehorn and Angie Harmon announced their "amicable separation," which they said stems from difficulties juggling time together and their distance from each other because of work.

Stepping back, Sehorn proposed to Harmon on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' in 1998. After that the couple got married three years later in 2001 and have since had three daughters together: Finley, 11, Avery, 9 and Emery, 5.

This was the second marriage of the former NFL star, who split from Whitney Casey back in 1999 after less than a year of marriage, while it was the first for The 'Rizzoli & Isles' actress.

A representative of Angie Harmon's released a statement to People Magazine about the couple's split whcih was announced on Sunday, "For the sake of their children, they ask for respect and privacy as they navigate this time in their lives."

Back in 2011, Harmon talked about some of the struggles connected to balancing her time between Charlotte, North Carolina where her family lives and Los Angeles, where her show was filmed.

"We don't get out Friday nights early enough to catch a flight home. So I'm here [in L.A.]. We sometimes meet in Texas, a 2 ½ hour flight for both of us. I miss my kids, It's so hard, but my children are so understanding," the 42-year old actress stated to Your Tango.

"You have to be really considerate of each other, really kind to each other-It's a lot of work," Harmon added noting how she manages to keep the relationship alive with her husband.

"Communication is a huge, huge thing in marriage. And it doesn't matter if it's uncomfortable or brings up bad stuff. You really have to have the guts to talk to each other," the 'Law & Order' actress told Good Housekeeping in 2011.

Beyond that, an insider from Us Magazine said that one of the biggest issues the former couple had was enduring several months apart.

"A large part of it is when you spend five or six months a year away from your spouse, it gets really tough," the source reveals.

"In the beginning, they really missed each other, but then they got in to a groove where one person took over the main responsibilities of parenting while the other as working," the source added.
