Angelina Jolie News, New Film 2014: Trailer for Jolie's 'Unbroken' Has Been Released, Film Premieres Dec. 25
The official trailer for 'Unbroken' has finally been released as the movie draws near its premiere date on December 25, 2014.
The film is based on the book 'Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption' by Laura Hillenbrand. Both, the book and the movie tell the story of Louis "Louie" Zamperini, an Olympic runner who later became a World War II hero.
During the war, Zamperini and two other crewmen survived a plane crash in the Pacific Ocean. They spent 47 days adrift in a raft before they were found and captured by the Japanese navy, who sent them to a POW camp. Zamperini spent over two and a half years as a captive in severely brutal Japanese prison camps. He didn't gain his freedom until the end of the war in August, 1945.
Angelina Jolie both directed and produced the movie, which will be the third film that she's directed in her career. She directed the 2007 documentary 'A Place in Time' and the 2011 drama 'In the Land of Blood and Honey'.
She also met and became friends with Zamperini, and showed him the movie in a special screening. Unfortunately, he died last July at age 97.
The British actor Jack O'Connell ('300: Rise of an Empire') will play Zamperini. The Japanese actor and musician Miyavi will play Mutushiro "The Bird" Watanabe, a vicious prison guard at one of the camps. Other actors attached to the film include Jai Courtney, Domhnall Gleeson, Garrett Hedlund, and Finn Wittrock. The writers include the brothers Joel and Ethan Coen, Richard LaGravenese, and William Nicholson.
