Angela Basset to Direct Film on Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's 'Tumultuous Marriage' for Lifetime Original (VIDEO)

According to a recent press release, award-winning actress Angela Basset has signed on to direct the film on the life of the legendary singer Whitney Houston.

Basset will make her directing debut with Whitney Houston, a new film telling the story of Houston and her relationship with Bobby Brown. The lifetime original film movie will go on a journey from "the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity, to their courtship and tumultuous marriage," stated a press release.

"I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story," Bassett said in the release. "Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world."

Houston met Brown at the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards. After a three-year courtship, the two were married on July 18, 1992. On March 4, 1993, Houston gave birth to their daughter Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown, her only child, and his fourth. Brown would go on to have several run-ins with the law, including some jail time.

In 1995, Houston starred alongside Basset in her second film Waiting to Exhale. The "Whitney Houston" movie is scheduled to premiere on Lifetime original in 2015.
