Andy Mineo's 'Never Land' Reaches No. 2 on Rap Billboard Charts Behind 'Heist,' 'I'll Sit Behind Macklemore After the Grammy Performance'

Reach Records Christian Emcee Andy Mineo lands at #2 on the Billboard charts with his latest EP, Never Land. MTV News catches up with the young rapper to discuss the EPs success.

Mineo's full-length studio album, Heroes for Sale, independently released last year sold an impressive 28,000 copies. The New York rapper told MTV the new release was meant to hold fans over until his next full-length studio album.

"The goal of this was to put out a really cool project between Heroes for Sale and my next album just to keep [fans] excited and keep the momentum," he said of Never Land. "This is for my core."

Never Land was only released digitally but Mineo still managed to move 26,000 copies in its debut week, landing at #13 on the overall Billboard albums chart and #2 on the rap albums chart.

"I didn't know what to really expect because I was dealing with two opposing things. One was that, yes I expect our fans and the 116 family [fan army] to come out and show support, because they always have. But at the same token, I said this is a very last-minute EP that didn't have marketing dollars, that didn't have a big budget, that didn't have a lot of stuff that we normally put into an album," he told the music site.

The seven song EP features an eclectic style of music featuring that 808 Southern style, to the Washington Heights Latin flare, rock, and of course Mineo bringing his staple, fast pace Hip-Hop/Rap skills to the table.

MTV.com has been very supported of the Christian rapper stating, "Though Never Land is driven by his faith, his skill helps to break the stereotype that religious rappers aren't typically very good."

Mineos dedicated fan base helped him secure the #2 position on the rap charts, behind Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' The Heist, whose album sales increased since the duo's performance at the Grammys in which dozens of Gay, Lesbian, and heterosexual couples exchanged rings and were married while millions watched on screen.

"Number two on the hip-hop charts? I'll sit behind Macklemore after the Grammy performance and take #2; that's cool," Mineo said.

He caps off the interview by saying although he is grateful his fans understand the true reason to celebrate and it is because of the message of Christ in his music. "They know like I know, numbers aren't what we live for," he said. "Numbers at the end of the day and charting is not what we're here to do only. They just help tell the story."

The album is now available on iTunes.
