Andy Mineo and Bizzle Christian Rap Beef? Mineo Talks Homosexuality in Hip-Hop, Gets Accused of Bashing Rapper's 'Same Love' Response Song (VIDEO)
A Hip Hop feud between Christian rappers is unheard of but a recent article had fans thinking perhaps there was one brewing. The article on Reach Records artist Andy Mineo had fans questioning whether or not the Emcee was calling out rapper Bizzle for his song on homosexuality.
In a recent EWW Magazine article in which the author headlines, "Shame: Andy Mineo Criticizes Bizzle's Brilliant 'Same Love' Response Rap," the New York rapper is portrayed as going against Bizzle and his stance on homosexuality.
The author writes "Disappointing. This is the only word that can describe Reach Records rapper Andy Mineo's comments on his brother in Christ Bizzle's brilliant response to Macklemore's gay-affirming anthem 'Same Love.'"
Adding, "In a recent sit-down with NBC's "The Grio," rather than taking the opportunity to support a fellow Christian artist's efforts to put forth a biblical perspective on homosexuality, Mineo criticized them. It's a shame."
Immediately fans came to Mineo's defense labeling the article "sensationalized" and "misleading." They claimed the article was embellished on what Mineo stated in the video interview and they were not happy about it.
During "The Grio" interview, when questioned on the subject of homosexuality in Hip-Hop, Mineo carefully explained his thoughts and spoke for himself never once mentioning Bizzle, although the interviewer mentioned the rapper specifically to engage the topic.
"That's always a sticky thing," Mineo replied. "The homosexuality conversation is a big conversation, and its one that pushes buttons that invoke a lot of strong emotion because a lot of people identify there whole identity in their sexuality."
He went on to explain that his goal is not to address weighty topics like homosexuality in his music because he feels like he would not have an adequate amount of time to express all he feels about it on an individual track.
"I have to think through those things in a way that says, 'is this the time and the place to be able to unpack everything that I believe and my personal beliefs in my music, and is it going to be helpful for people,'" he explained.
Mineo went on to say, "At the end of the day I want to create music for people that's going to be helpful... that's going to up lift them ...point them in a direction, but my music is not going to be able to sit down with somebody and have a conversation; its one directional."
He then ended the interview by saying, "I think addressing topics like that on rap records might not be the best place."
The EWW article then inspired blogger Frank Gill to do a counter article defending Mineo titled, "Andy Mineo didn't say anything wrong."
