Android Wear Specs and Features: Google Smartwatch Seeks to Be Handy and Efficient

Google has newly unveiled an operating system for the growing trend of wearable technology such as smart watches. So what will the new features for these devices be? And when can we hope to see this product released for common use?

Android Wear was announced by Google as a new operating system developed for 'Smart Watches,' and other wearable devices. It will focus on quick, up to the minute notifications, updating users on the status of traffic, flight delays, bus routes, etc.

Android Wear users will be voice activated, responding to the user with the initiating command: "O.K. Google" which will allow the user to perform a search online. The software will not only run google applications but will allow interruptions and notifications from third-party apps. Google may be announcing the software now in hopes that Android App developers will look towards the future with Android Wear capabilities in mind.

But it isn't just updates on transportation and weather that could win the casual prospective buyer. There's a list of possible uses for the product that are mouthwatering in diversity and scope, or at least appear so when viewed in light of Google's well-produced teaser (view below). Facets that can be accessed through the operating system include sports updates, fitness, safety, boarding passes for flights, and even an interpretive function which can analyze melodies to find song and band names.

Google apparently has plans for working with hardware producers to perfect devices on which their new operating system can run. This means enlisting the help of companies like Motorola and Samsung. Motorola has been waving around the idea of a round smartwatch called the Moto 360.
